Doctors & Staff

Our team consists of 5 veterinary surgeons, veterinary orderlies, veterinary nurses and technicians, kennel hands and administration staff.

The staff at Citivet Bothasig and Monte Vista are all animal lovers, as well as pet owners themselves. Rest assured that your pet, whilst in our care, will receive quality veterinary treatment and expert care, as well as plenty of cuddles. They will look forward to their next visit!

Dr Peter van Der Merwe

BVSc Hons

Dr Peter van der Merwe graduated from Onderstepoort in 1990. In March 2000 he became the sole proprietor of Citivet Bothasig. He completed an Honours degree in small animal internal medicine and clinical pathology in 2004. He went on to purchase Citivet Monte Vista in 2009.  Dr Peter has a special interest in diagnostic imaging and small animal medicine.  


Dr Kegan Becker


Dr Kegan Becker graduated from Onderstepoort in 2012. After practising for a short while in Milnerton, she moved to join the CitiVet team in June 2013. She has a keen interest in small animal surgery and behaviour. Dr Becker is a qualified and certified puppy school instructor and has completed her Veterinary Clinical Behaviour Course. 


Dr Anita Neethling


Dr Anita Neethling gained experience at the Phalaborwa and Casteel Animal Clinics after qualifying at Onderstepoort. She is part of the outreach assisting in Malawi, and was also part of the Lesotho Veterinary outreach team during her stay at Onderstepoort. Dr Anita has a special interest in ophthalmology 




Dr Marike Naude


Dr Marike Naude qualified from Onderstepoort in 2019. Dr Marike then worked as a CCS veterinarian in Worcester, during which time she gained valuable experience with different organizations including the Winelands SPCA, and John Moorequalifying Animal Welfare. She has a keen interest in small animal medicine and behaviour. 

Dr Tania Heuer


Dr Tania Heuer graduated from Onderstepoort in 2008.

She has been practising locum work for the last 5 years.

Dr Tania spent 1 year in Singapore in 2019 and has a special interest in Feline medicine, emergency & critical care work like ophthalmology.

She assists at Tears Animal Rescue in her spare time


Dr Gosia Ornatowska

S.G.G.W Warsaw

Dr. Gosia Ornatowska hails from Warsaw, Poland. She qualified as a veterinarian in 2000. Dr. Gosia opened her own practice in Warsaw, and then spent 8 months working in Dubai as a surgeon.  Personal reasons brought her to Cape Town, where she worked in Animal Welfare, before joining Citivet in 2004. Her special interests are soft tissue surgery as well as her smaller patients, namely rabbits, hamsters, and rats.
